A Fantasy of Carols

1989  (12 minutes)

A Fantasy of Carols tells a story through Christmas carols of a lonely man searching for life’s purpose and realizing his own mortality.  Set on a crisp star-lit Christmas Eve he reminisces of a time when he as a child sat staring at a similar sky pondering the mysteries of the first Christmas. Later his mind moves to the joy of Christmas day as children burst outside to play with their new toys and with each other. Then he recalls Christmas dinner as family and friends eat and sing together. Finally he recalls Christmas night – his mother putting him to bed and singing a lullaby to him. These memories clear his mind and lighten his heart.

Carols featured in this piece are

“Lo How a Rose E’re Blooming”
“I Saw Three Ships”
“Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella”
“In dulci jubilo”
“The Cradle Song”
