An Olde Yuletide Suite
1997 (12 minutes)
A five movement suite setting of old carols set in archaic styles.
i. Canzona features 2 antiphonal brass choirs á la Gabrieli, in a setting of “While Shepards Watched.”
ii. Dance is a lively setting of “Angels Merrily on High” featuring first a woodwind consort followed by a string group.
iii. Lullaby is a pastorale with muted strings.
iv. Chorale is a prelude setting of “Von Himmel hoch” written in the style of J.S. Bach.
v. Postlude is another antiphonal brass work; this one in the style of of Susato.
