Concerto for Double Bass and Strings (Piano Reduction version)

$40.00

2018  (32′ duration)

Concerto for Double Bass and Strings was composed for Leonid Finkelshteyn, Principal Double Bassist for the North Carolina Symphony. This concerto is a virtuostic tour de force for the Double Bass.  Set in four movements, the work acknowledges the ancestry of both the composer as well as Mr. Finkelsteyn incorporating forms and styles of the 19th and 20th century central East Europe and Russia, with Yiddish-like themes abounding.

Double Bass Concerto – (solo Tuning)

Double Bass Concerto -(orchestra tuning)

Excerpts are from the orchestra version.

I. Allegro Guisto –  is an Allegro in Sonata form with contrasting themes, the second of which has decidedly Yiddish reflections.

II. Romanza alla marcia satirica is a musical tug of war between the march of the orchestra and the romanza of the Double Bass.

III.  Scherzo – This movement is a very rustic scherzo and trio.

IV.  Dances – An extended cadenza precedes the fourth movement. Two dances follow with Russian folk-like music

This Concerto is also available in an orchestra version.  The version for Bass with Piano reduction is available for both solo and standard tuning. You must specify which version (solo or standard) when ordering the Piano reduction version.
