Divertimento for Clarinet and String Quintet

Commissioned by the families of my friends Michael Cyzewski and Scott Bridges and dedicated to them.  

Divertimento is a showcase for clarinet. The first two movements are in my own neo-classical style. Both are in sonata form. and feature the interplay of the clarinet with the string quintet. A difficult but very playable clarinet part and and extended cadenza before the coda.

Excerpts from Divertimento

I. Movement one is moderately fast and flowing. It is in sonata form and has wisps of Prokofiev here and there.

II. Andante con moto shows the broad tonal range of the clarinet.

III. Rondo Burlesca is a musical tribute to the lineage of friends and family. There are musical treats for Poles, Scots, Czechs, Italians and Russians, with a virtuostic cadenza thrown in. A delightful musical romp in several styles .
